Fujikyu Highlands
announces "Birdmen"
Fujikyu Highlands park in Japan recently announced a new
roller coaster: Birdmen. It looks as if the ride will be the world's third prone position
roller coaster (the first being Sky Trak at Grenada Studios in Manchester, England and the
second being Stealth at Paramount Great America in Santa Clara Californuia, USA), and one
of only two operating today. The ride will be 480 m (1575 feet) in length, have a ride
time of 80 seconds, and feature two across cars. Unlike Stealth, riders will be suspended
underneath the tracks the entire ride. The ride will not have inversion elements, and it's
manufacturer has not yet been announced. The image on the left is an artist's rendering of
the new ride. - 24/04/00 |

Playland's New Tower Ride Topped Off
Playland's new tower ride was topped off around the 30th of
March. We've managed to squeeze some information from various people (workers on the
construction site, Playland officials). It's a 200 foot tall S&S tower ride.
Apparantly it can shoot you either up or down. The name for it will probably be
"Hellevator". We'll be attending their press conferance some time this month, so
we'll keep you posted on this, and playland's two other new rides for the 2000 season. - 02/04/00
